Thrive for Life Heads Back Behind the Walls
After a long hiatus brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Thrive for Life family is happy to announce the return of our spiritual retreats for citizens behind the walls! On Sunday July 25, 2021, our newly ordained Fr. Zach returned to Otisville Correctional Facility in Upstate New York to host the first of our spiritual retreats since the closure of the prisons to volunteers in early 2020. Unfortunately, correctional staff at this time have limited our facility access to one person. However, as the public health situation continues to improve, we hope to be able to send full cohorts of spiritual mentors back to serve soon!
Our mentors are hard at work preparing for a return to our in-person ministry, whenever the time comes. Now more than ever, our friends behind the walls need our support and care. While the pandemic has ravaged our communities on the outside, jails and prisons throughout the country have been hit particularly hard. To date, the Marshall Project reports that over half-a-million folks contracted COVID-19 in prison over the past year and half. With the slow return to in-person programming, we look forward to once again bringing hope, comfort, and grace to citizens behind the walls, especially in these challenging times.
If you are interested in becoming a spiritual mentor, please contact our team at info@thriveforlife.org. We welcome all those who are committed to sharing the gifts of grace and hope with those on the inside!
