Resident Scholars Celebrate Holy Thursday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
This past Holy Thursday, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan invited members of Ignacio House to join him in the celebration of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. In the Catholic faith, this Mass commemorates the Last Supper shared between Jesus and His disciples, during which He offered the sacrifice of His body and blood in what we now celebrate as the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. During the liturgy, the celebrant washes the feet of individuals from the congregation imitating the Gospel accounts of Jesus humbling Himself before His followers and washing their feet as a sign of fraternity and love.
In addition to announcing the donation of a new site in Washington Heights for a brand new Ignacio House of Studies, Cardinal Dolan took time in his homily to praise the incredible work of our resident scholars who are continuing their education while ambitiously navigating the journey of successful reentry beyond the prison walls. He then invited three current residents and one alumnus to participate in the sacred foot washing ritual performed in Catholic communities around the world on one of the most solemn days of the liturgical year.
We are incredibly grateful to Cardinal Dolan for his continued support for our important work and the tremendous affirmation of our residents’ human dignity. As we continue our journey of expansion and growth, we are glad to have the prayers and backing of His Eminence.
