Team Ignacio House Takes The 2022 TD Five Boro Bike Tour!

On May 1, eleven riders took to the pavement and represented Thrive For Life in the annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour. Spanning nearly 40 miles from Manhattan through Staten Island, cyclists from around the world joined for one of the nation’s largest charitable bike-a-thons. Coming off the heels of a disappointing cancellation last year due to Hurricane Henri, Thrive For Life eagerly anticipated the long-awaited tour and could not have had a better day of sunshine, community, and exhilaration.

Starting near the World Trade Center in Manhattan, our riders took off on the long trek, endeavoring to get as far as they could. Made up of volunteers, staff, and resident scholars from Ignacio House, our team spent many weeks soliciting support from friends and family to contribute to Thrive For Life’s team fundraising goal. Over the course of the day, our riders traversed many neighborhoods throughout New York City, meeting troves of cheering supporters and community members along their route. In what can only be described as an incredible feat of strength and endurance, nine of our riders made the full trek to Staten Island, covering over 40 miles of ground!

Of course, no Thrive For Life function would be complete without a victory celebration, abounding with food, laughs, and community. Thanks to the tremendous generosity of Young Executive Board member (and 40-mile-rider) Lorenzo Manuali and his family, team members, resident scholars, and volunteers enjoyed delicious food from Eataly as they soaked up the beautiful springtime weather on the Great Lawn at Central Park.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our team members who worked hard to make this event an incredible success. Special thanks are due to our riders–Jimmy, Mychal, Italo, Lorenzo, Henry, Kyle, Vivian, Laura, Cristian, Tara, and Peter–our staff, the Bastianich & Manuali families, and our many generous supporters and donors who helped us surpass our fundraising goal! The team set out to raise $5,000 and managed to bring in over $8,000 in donations that will go to support the important work of transformation for folks behind and beyond the prison walls.
