Resident Scholars Share Stories of Transformation at Regis-Dominican Academy Social Justice Seminar
Thrive For Life was delighted to again visit Regis High School and Dominican Academy as part of their Social Justice Seminar series. The organization had the opportunity to share its mission of transforming lives both behind and beyond prison walls. A special highlight of the event was Mychal, a resident scholar at Ignacio House, sharing his personal story of transformation. The students and faculty offered a warm welcome, and we are grateful for their collaboration.
This year, Thrive For Life was invited to share insights about their work behind and beyond the walls. Students listened intently as Ignacio House Resident Scholar Mychal detailed his journey from incarceration to pursuing a degree at New York University. Mychal discovered Ignacio House just before his release from prison, and since then, he has studied storytelling, videography, and narrative construction. Aspiring to become a creative director, Mychal has honed his skills through internships and fellowships.
Following Mychal's remarks, students watched the first chapter of a documentary featuring Jerrel, a recent Ignacio House graduate who earned his MBA from Mercy College. Additionally, Jesuit Scholastics accompanying Fr. Zach on his weekly visits to Rikers Island shared their experiences of providing spiritual care to our brothers and sisters behind the walls.
Thrive For Life is immensely grateful to the Regis and Dominican Academy communities for their support and dedication to the mission of transforming lives within and beyond prison walls. We eagerly anticipate future collaborations!
