Vincenzo's New Book: Rethinking Justice
Thrive for Life is excited to share that our very own Vincenzo Guido has published his first book covering the growing movement around the United States to recalibrate the approach to criminal prosecution. In the book, Vincenzo recounts stories from several cities including Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston, and Portsmouth and how their trailblazing district attorneys have taken a step back from traditional “tough on crime” approaches in favor of more nuanced techniques that prioritize rehabilitation and restorative justice. Among these reforms include changes to cash bail, sentencing recommendations, charging discretion, and ways to facilitate successful re-entry for our brothers and sisters coming home from behind the walls.
Vincenzo recently joined our team as a Development Associate where he will assist with the creation and circulation of our partner and inmate newsletters, in addition to supporting our ongoing fundraising and grant-writing efforts. A graduate of Regis High School--one of our fellow Jesuit partners with our Rikers Island ministry--he believes that prosecutors can play an invaluable role in effecting positive criminal justice outcomes that emphasize mercy and healing over retribution and condemnation.
Vincenzo has informed us that all profits from his publication will go to directly support Thrive for Life and its ministry behind and beyond U.S. prison walls. We encourage our friends and supporters to check out the book and learn more about the ways our institutions can better do justice for all.
