Thrive For Life Sets Sights on Milwaukee

On September 30, 2021, Fr. Zach joined with several community leaders and friends to discuss the exciting next steps of bringing the Ignacio House of Studies model to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In partnership with Marquette University’s Education Preparedness Program (EPP), Thrive for Life will aim to build off the successes of our first House of Studies in New York by combining forces to transform lives behind and beyond the prison walls in Wisconsin.

Marquette’s EPP has done exemplary work with folks affected by incarceration by providing academic support and career-building resources for folks re-entering society from jail and prison. Recognizing the essential role education plays in successful re-entry, EPP aims to improve academic and career guidance by expanding college degree pathways for students who come into contact with the criminal justice system. Thrive for Life, in collaboration with EPP, endeavors to deploy the Ignacio House of Studies model to provide the important ingredient of safe and secure housing for those folks doing the great work of college education.

After a successful discussion and night of presentations, Fr. Zach will travel to Milwaukee October 6-8th  to visit possible sites for a house of studies and meet with local community leaders to cultivate enduring relationships to grow and sustain this important ministry.

For those interested in learning more about this exciting project, Fr. Zach will be presenting at an upcoming event on November 11, 2021 hosted by the Ignatian Volunteer Corps, during which he will talk about ‘Dreaming Big’, the Milwaukee expansion, and the Ignacio House model. Details for accessing the event are forthcoming.
